I’ve seen jars like this all over Pinterest and Etsy and I love ‘em! Now, I already have more than enough piggy banks around the house for my loose change…
But, the husband only has this old, plastic Coke cup.
So, I thought one of these jars would be really nice for him to use, but I couldn’t get myself to buy one when it looked so easy to DIY. Here’s how I did it:
SUPPLIES:
- empty jar/canister
- clear contact paper
- computer, printer, paper, & ink
- scissors
STEP 1: I designed my moustache and wording on the computer.
I use a free program called Paint.net. It’s no where near as advanced as PhotoShop, obviously, but you can still do basic things like layers and clone stamping and you can download add-ons like different paint brushes and actions. Plus, it’s FREE! which is a major selling factor for me.
1. print it out // 2. cut each piece out individually [a major pain in the butt, but it looks better w/o all the extra white space] // 3. stick the pieces on the contact paper [make sure the letters are backwards] // 4. cut around each piece leaving a good amount of contact paper around the border to stick to the jar
Then just stick ‘em on your jar wherever you want, fill it with change, and you’re done!
Andrew probably doesn’t care too much where he puts his spare change, but I think it looks a lot nicer sitting on his dresser than that ratty old Coke-a-Cola cup. What do you think?

I think that looks far better than the cup. A very good idea, lets hope he fills it up very quickly!
