I love having a cat in the house, but the litter box… not so much. It’s being kept in the half bathroom – you know, the one that guests use when they come over – and this is the first thing they see after opening the door:

Not so lovely. So I came up with a way to hide it using items I already had on hand.
We got this shelf from WalMart after moving into our first apartment. Our new place has more storage in the kitchen so we weren’t using it anymore.
I took off the bottom shelf and moved the middle one up so it was just a bit taller than the litter box.

I had some old curtains that I wasn't using anymore and decided to use for this project.

Hugo Approves. ;)

I cut the fabric so that it would reach to just above the floor once it was hemmed.

Then, of course, I pinned, pressed, and sewed up the hem.

Hugo loves to watch me sew. :)

Once it was hemmed I hung it back on the shelf…

…and cut a slit on the side so Hugo could easily get into his liter box. I cut the slit up to the second shelf.

Here it is in the bathroom over the litter box.

It still looked a bit unfinished, so I cut up that thick poster board thing I was originally going to use for the comic book tiles and put it on the top shelf.

All finished!

Now guests are no longer confronted with my cat’s poop when they use the bathroom and I get some extra hidden storage!
what a neat idea! i love how the grommets slide right on there. your kitty is super cute!
ReplyDeleteThats a good idea! I have a cat and grew up having cats too and I know what how you feel. Our litter box is on our laundry room. I HATE IT! I might have to give this a try. New follower :)
