More Evidence in the “Rory May Be The Master” Case

August 30, 2012

I shared some reasons why I think that Rory Williams might be The Master last week. Now I have a few other things to add to this theory. Again, if you don’t watch Doctor Who or aren’t up to date with the episodes, just ignore this post. Wouldn’t want to spoil anything for you. Otherwise, click the “Read More” link.

While watching The Eleventh Hour the other night, the husband and I noticed something really odd. Rory’s hospital ID badge dated back to 1990.

Assuming that Rory is the same age as Amy, he would have only been 1 year old in 1990. (The Pandorica opened in 2010, which would have been two years after the Atraxi incident in The Eleventh Hour  which was 12 years after The Doctor first meets Amy when she’s 7. So that makes Amy 21 years old in 2010 when she leaves with the Doctor.)

At first I thought it was definite proof that Rory was a Timelord of some sort, but now I’m wondering if there isn’t something weird going on with the whole town. They specifically mention there not being ducks in the duck pond, and apparently the newspapers in the stands have a 1995 date (I didn’t notice this, but read it online). So is there still some mystery about this place? Or were all of these weird things just results of the crack in Amy’s bedroom? Maybe the date on Rory’s badge is because he ended up not existing and then later living 2000 years guarding The Pandorica. I don’t know! It’s all just wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff.

I’m still not totally convinced that Rory is The Master, but I’m pretty sure he has to be some sort of Timelord. Even if the date on his badge has nothing to do with it, he still keeps coming back to life, he has a half Timelord daughter, and he wasn’t at all surprised that the TARDIS was bigger on the inside. Also, I think it would be really cool for Rory to have his own epic story – as long as it’s a good epic story. I still think I’d be completely crushed if he turned out to be evil.

Anyway, there’s my Doctor Who rant for the day. Just had to get all of these ideas out before the new season starts on Saturday!
