The Past 2 Weeks In Review [June 16-29]

June 30, 2013

1 2

I missed last week’s “review post” because we were traveling, but other than having some really beautiful weather and going out for ice cream, not a whole lot happened during the week.

3 4

Last weekend we went on a little road trip over to Philly/New Jersey for a friend’s wedding.

It was a black tie reception so we had to be extra fancy. It was kind of fun to get dressed up, but man, oh man was that dress a biotch to get into. Invisible zippers are the worst.

6 7

The reception was at this fancy estate near Philadelphia. That’s actually the smaller of the homes that were on the property.

8 9

The party was out on the patio and it was just gorgeous.

We had a five course meal and I’m pretty sure it was all the best food I’ve ever had in my entire life. After dinner we went into the estate where each room had a different assortment of desserts to choose from.

The next day we drove back to Ohio and have been visiting family and friends in our hometown this past week.

12 13

We’re staying with my sister and her husband. They just adopted a new kitten and their cat is not too fond of her, but every now then you can catch them having a peaceful moment together.

14 15

A few days ago, a couple of my friends and I found a baby bird that had been blown out of its nest from a storm. We were able to rescue it by making a fake nest out of a basket and a towel and putting it back in the tree. We were so, so, so excited when the momma Robin came back and continued to take care of the baby.

Friday my sister and I went to Cedar Point and road the new roller coaster Gate Keeper. It was pretty fun, but it broke down right as we were pulling into the station so we were stuck on it for like ten minutes. That was not fun.

17 18

The thunderstorms we got that day weren’t much fun either. Twice we were advised to seek shelter and they even lost power for like a split second. All in all though it was a pretty good trip.

We’re still visiting right now and will probably be heading back on Wednesday, just in time for the 4th of July. I didn’t get any posts finished for this coming week ahead of time. I’m going to try my best to at least get Fangirl Fashions, a free printable, and Friday Favorites up though, but please understand if I’m not able to get it all done this week.

That’s all for now. Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

In the little dining area of our new apartment there’s a coat closet/pantry – kind of an odd combination, but it works for the small space. Anyway, it has these fake wooden sliding doors that take up almost the entire wall. So basically it was just a big brown square. (Sorry I don’t have any “before” pictures). You’ll soon learn, as I show you more bits of our home, that I do not like blank space on walls (or doors now I guess). So I knew I wanted to cover up the closet doors somehow. I’d seen a few “Instagram Galleries” around the blogosphere and thought that would be fun to try.

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

I measured the doors themselves to know how many pictures I could fit. I knew I didn’t have enough actual Instagram pictures that I liked enough to fill up the space, so I ordered the ones I liked from Printstagram and the rest are 4x6 prints from Walgreens that I cut down to 4x4s. There were 222 pictures total. I laid them out on the floor in the order I wanted before sticking them on the doors with sticky tack.

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

This thing was ridiculously hard for me to photograph, so please forgive the poorer than usual quality of the pictures. The giant living room window/door that’s right across from the close made it impossible to get a shot without any glare. Okay  it probably wasn’t impossible, but you know I ain’t got them photog skillz, yo…?

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

Anyway, here’s a slightly less awful shot – complete with empty kitchen and random plugs and cords on the wall!

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

It took me probably around 5 days total to finish everything.

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

I had to leave a square open on each door for the handles. I had planned on the handles being more centered with the photos, but apparently I don’t got them measuring skillz either.

Bits of Home: Instagram Photo Collage |

The doors can still slide open easily to get inside the closet, although sometimes I have to push the doors back/forward (depending on which door) to make sure it doesn’t catch the corner of one of the photos and bend it.

Overall though it works great and adds some interest to an otherwise boring section of the apartment.

// sometimes I share my projects, printables, and home decor on these sites. //

Renting Text Books & Giving Back

June 20, 2013

I’ve mentioned once or twice around here that I’m planning on going back to college once everything is sorted out with Andrew’s schooling/job situation. But you know what, college is freakin’ expensive! The tuition alone is enough to make your bank account cry out in agony, but then you have to add the cost of text books on top of that. That’s one of the main reasons I didn’t go for a four year degree the first time around.

Even at a community college I was still paying over $500 each semester on text books, most of which I barely used in class, and all of which I never even picked up once the class was over. I probably paid at least $2,500 for all of my text books, but only made $20 from selling them back. Yeah. Not cool, man.

Luckily I won’t have to go through that frustration this next time around thanks to Campus Book Rentals.

I know there are a lot of text book rental companies all over the web nowadays, but I really think that this company has them all beat. Not only will you save 40-90% off the cost of your books and get free shipping, you actually get to act like you own your books. That means you can highlight text, dog-ear pages, and even jot down notes ‘til your heart’s content [ provided they’re respectful notes of course ;) ] And if you decide you do actually want to own the book, all you have to do is pay the difference and its all yours.

They even allow you to rent out your own text books to other students through their RentBack program and earn 2-4 times more cash than you would from selling them back to the campus bookstore.

My favorite thing about Campus Book Rental though, is how they give back. In addition to giving out $90,000 in textbook scholarships, they also partner with an amazing organization, Operation Smile.

If you’re not familiar with Operation Smile, they are a charity group that perform life changing cleft lip surgeries on children whose families could not otherwise afford it. Without surgery cleft palettes often result in a child’s inability to eat, speak, socialize or smile, and can also lead to death before they even reach their first birthday. Campus Book Rentals donates money from every single book rental to help fund these surgeries.

I’m so glad that Campus Book Rental contacted me about writing a post about them. I truly do think they are a remarkable company and I’m looking forward to using their services in the future.

// If you haven’t already figured it out, this was a sponsored post, but all opinions are 100% mine and I wouldn’t endorse a company I didn’t believe in and genuinely love. //
