Just Call Me Princess Bubblegum

Just Call Me Princess Bubblegum | allonsykimberly.com

One of the best parts of having white blonde hair is being able to add fun colors to it whenever you want. In the past I’ve done pastel streaks, hot pink on the under layer of my hair, and I even had white to lavender ombre hair a couple of months ago. But, I’d never dyed all of my hair an “alternative” color, and to be honest I’m still really self conscious about it.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it looks pretty, but I get super uncomfortable when people stare at me (or give me any kind of attention really) and, let’s face it, when you’ve got a head full of cotton candy colored hair, people are gonna look. But, I’m just going to set my insecurities aside and rock this pink hair for a little while.

What do you guys think? Would you ever want to (or have you ever) dyed your hair an unnatural color? Would you be interested in tutorials on how I dye my hair all these fun colors?

Getting Pumped for Catching Fire

July 27, 2013

Catching Fire Poster(image via Fawkes Tears on Deviant Art)

If you haven’t already seen the new trailer for Catching Fire that was released at SDCC last week, than you really, really need to. It’s pretty incredible (even better than the teaser that premiered at MTV Movie Awards) and it’s got me more excited than ever for the movie.

Here are a few squee inducing moments from the trailer:

  • The portrayal of the uprisings throughout the districts (mockingjay symbols, spray paint on the trains, burning the Capitol flag, etc.) It all looks so well executed.
  • The other victors. I’m so looking forward to seeing Jena Malone as Johanna. I think I’m more excited about seeing her character brought to life than Finnick’s, which is weird considering he was my favorite from the books.
  • Her dress, you guys! I can’t even…
  • The look on Katniss’ face when she enters the arena – because we all know (assuming you’ve read the books) why she looks near hysterics. Not that I’m looking forward to seeing that happen, Jennifer Lawrence’s acting is just fantastic.
  • Then, to top it all off, there's the music sending chills all up your arms (or maybe that’s just me…)

It looks like this film is going to be just as well done, if not better, than the first. November 22 cannot come fast enough.

Oh! And in case you’ve missed out on some of the other CF goodies that have been released over the past few weeks, here are a few posters of the victors (the full set can be seen here).

Just in case you weren't lucky enough to make it to SDCC you can watch the full Comic Con Panel for Catching Fire online. I haven’t watched the whole thing yet, but I’m sure it’s fantastic.

It’s My Birthday!

Birthday Octopus Doodle | allonsykimberly.com

Yup, it’s muh birfday. I’m turning 23 today and to celebrate I drew this little octopus for myself. I also slept in till noon (WHAT!? Don’t judge.), went for a run, loafed around watching TV and videos from SDCC, and then finally got myself all cleaned up an pretty to go out tonight. Andrew’s taking me to this nice little Korean restaurant we like. It’s kind of out of our budget right now, but hey, that’s what credit cards are for, right? Probably not the best philosophy to live by, but it’s my birthday and I want some sushi, dagnabbit.

Hope you all have had (and continue to have) a fantastic Monday!

July 10, 2013

I’ve been a little MIA these past few days and probably will continue to be so for at least the rest of the week. There’s some pretty heavy stuff going on in my personal life, and I’m still trying to recuperate from all the traveling over the past two weeks. I’m still getting caught up on housework and designs (I’m getting ready to open some shops soon!) and being distracted by Bioshock…

I actually had planned on having a free printable up today, but my computer had other plans and decided to crash after I was half way done with the design – and of course I hadn’t saved it yet. So, rather than start over again, I shut everything down and watched Harry Potter with my husband. Sometimes that’s just what you gotta do.

Anyway, I’m hoping to be back in full swing next week, but in the meantime please understand and forgive my absence. Oh, and enjoy this picture of Hugo!

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom [part 1]

July 01, 2013

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom | allonsykimberly.com

I’ve been putting a lot of effort into fixing up our tiny apartment lately. I don’t know if it’s because we’re having guests over soon or I’m just sick of living in boring, undecorated spaces, but I finally made myself do some of the “around the house” projects I’ve been planning since we moved in… five months ago.

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom | allonsykimberly.com

One of the spaces I recently worked on was our bedroom. The room is pretty small so there isn't much too show, but this is what I’ve done with my side. Andrew and I share a closet and a dresser now so I needed a little extra space for some of my clothes.

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom | allonsykimberly.com

I used some of those stackable wire cubes you can get at Wal-Mart or Target to store my undershirts, tank tops, and running gear.

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom | allonsykimberly.com

I enclosed the side of the top cube and left the top open to store all of my scarves and used the corners to hang a couple of my hats.

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom | allonsykimberly.com

I hung my sunhats on the wall with thumbtacks. For some reason I’m less intimidated to put holes in the wall with thumbtacks than actual nails.

I don’t have a lot of jewelry, nor do I wear it often, but I decided to display my necklaces with a corkboard (again hung with thumbtacks) and I put my bracelets on a few bottles I’ve had sitting around (I can’t seem to throw away glass containers remember).

Bits of Home: Our Bedroom | allonsykimberly.com

I hung one of the wire cubes on the wall with the big 7 lb. Command hooks (I didn’t think thumbtacks would cut it this time).

I keep my glasses hooked through the holes in the cube.

I used our old TV table to organize my t-shirts, jeans/shorts, and hoodies.

Then covered it with pretty scarf I never wear.

It feels really nice to actually live in a decorated home. Even if we only end up living here a few more months, at least they’ll be a little happier and prettier. I can’t wait to show you guys the rest of our place as it all comes together.
