Back in 2012 Andrew and I experienced our first Renaissance Festival (The Ohio Renaissance Festival) and we enjoyed it so much we decided to go again. That was back in September and I just now went through all the pictures. What can I say? It’s been a busy four months and this is just the beginning of several “catch up” posts that I have planned for the next few weeks.

Anyway…

Harry Potter robes anyone?

They alternate two performances on this stage throughout the day. Last year we watched The Swordsmen so this time around we wanted to see the Robin Hood play. It was more of a children’s show and they had a few kids and their parents come on stage and act out the skit with them. It was actually really cute and pretty entertaining.

The Kamikaze Fireflies were there the previous year as well, but we were only able to catch the tail end of their show then. This year we made sure to get in in time to see the whole performance.

This guy was hilarious jesting onlookers before the show and trying to persuade passersby to join the audience.

The woman was extremely impressive as well. She did a number of tricks while rolling around in that spinning wheel of death (actually I think it’s called a German wheel).

What kind of performance would it be without some fire juggling while standing on an audience member's back?

The queen making her was to the jousting tournament.

We routed for the Red Knight this year, but unfortunately he did not emerge victorious. We still got “gold” (Werther’s Caramels) thrown to us whenever he’d score a point though.

Between joustings you could spend time with the war horses and even ride them if you were willing… and paying. I was neither. But they sure were magnificent to look at.

We had a terrific time at the 2013 Ren Fest. Sadly we don't live very close to where they hold the festival anymore, but I've got my fingers crossed that we'll still find a way to go again this year.
