Characters I'd Love To Dress Up As For Halloween

October 16, 2014

Halloween is my favorite holiday. Putting together costumes, dressing up, and eating copious amounts of candy will always be awesome in my book. I’m not sure if I’ll be going to any parties this year or not, but I do plan on dressing up at work the entire week of Halloween. They wont be anything too elaborate of course because I need to still be able to get my work done, but if money and mobility weren’t an issue these are five characters I would love to dress up as this Halloween:

Casual Cosplay: Aquaman

October 14, 2014

Casual Cosplay: Aquaman | allonsykimberly.com

This outfit is quite obviously inspired by Aquaman. The colors of the garments, the nail polishes, and the jewelry are all indicative of the King of the Sea. So much so that I doubt I really need to elaborate on way I chose them. But in case you’re curious… I chose a dress that had longer sleeves, since Aquaman’s suit is long sleeved and the orange dress paired with the green tights and the gold belt mimic the coloring of his suit. I thought the netting on the sides of the shoes was a subtle nod toward one of Aquaman’s past outfits that featured a fishnet top. I intended for the nail polishes to be worn together, with the gold just being on an “accent nail”, but either color would work well on its own too. The fish scale cuff bracelet, trident necklace, and Aquaman cameo necklace (all with a gold finish to match the belt) tie everything together.

Okay, so maybe cats aren’t technically a “geeky” thing, but I’m pretty sure the level to which I love cats qualifies me as a cat geek, so….

Those are five items I wish were in my closet right now. Not that I’m complaining - the last thing I need is more clothes, but it’s always fun to window shop!

My Life in September 2014

October 06, 2014

1

A friend of mine organized a Walk for Farm Animals last month. It was a morning of walking around Cleveland to raise awareness for the abuse and mistreatment of animals used in factory farming. I didn’t participate in the walk, but I did enjoy some yummy vegan food and got to watch my friend, Matt, perform songs from his side project Cascades. And I may have befriended a squirrel.

2

Summer came to a close last month, but that didn’t stop us from visiting the lake. It was too cold to swim, but we walked along the shore, collecting sea glass and watching the sunset.

3

I got to see The Maze Runner and I was actually quite pleased with it. It’s been a couple years since I read the book, so I couldn’t remember a lot of the details to know if they were portrayed well, but from what I could recall it was pretty accurate. I was excited to find out that the sequel has been confirmed and set to release next September. The last two books are such a different setting from the first story though, so it will be interesting to see how that translates onto the big screen.

4

I went to another one of my friend’s shows. I know I’m probably a bit biased, but he is mega talented. You should definitely check out his facebook page if you’re into good music. :)

5

Andrew and I finally got to take a vacation together last month! It was just for the weekend, but it was still so refreshing to get away and to be alone even just for two days. Our first day was spent swimming and eating some delicious pizza from the lodge’s restaurant. Then we went for a 4+ mile hike the next afternoon, followed by a quick dip in the pool, and dinner at a fantastic local (to the area we were staying in) restaurant. I ordered Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale and had blueberry meringue pie. It was glorious.

September was pretty spectacular. Here’s hoping for an even better October!
