In a Nutshell… December 2014

January 19, 2015

Alrighty, let’s just dive right in, shall we? Here are some highlights from my life last month.

We got our own place! It took a bit of searching, but we finally found a really great condo in our price range and moved in last month. It probably wasn’t the best timing with the Christmas season in full swing at work (seriously, I was working 50-60 hours a week) but we managed to arrange a time to drive down to Fairborn to get our things out of storage. Andrew’s sisters and some friends of ours helped out and we got the whole thing done in a couple hours (excluding travel time of course) then stopped at Tim Horton’s for lunch – oh, how I had missed Tim Horton’s.

My friend’s band A Work of Fiction hosted an event to raise funds for the American Cancer Society as well as a family at our church who recently lost their husband/father to cancer. There were a bunch of bands playing and different raffles. It was a fun night and benefited a great cause. (The flyer says it happened at the end of November, so this should have been in last month’s recap, but for some reason I thought it happened in December so I’m writing about it here instead.)

One of my very best friends got married! She looked absolutely perfect and the wedding and reception were beautiful. She and her now husband met at mine and Andrew’s wedding – she was my bridesmaid and he was a groomsmen and they walked down the aisle together and everything - so this wedding was extra special to both of us.

The bride and groom are both huge Game of Thrones fans so they had special themed glasses at their head table.

The theme was kind of a rustic, outdoorsy Christmas thing with pine cones, plaid, trees, and lanterns everywhere.

It was gorgeous and so much fun. I’m so happy for our friends!

Despite all the chaos of moving and working extra hours, we set up our Christmas tree so we could celebrate at our new place.

And I got this super sweet Sorting Hat from my brother-in-law.

We took our annual trip to see The Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival. “The Festival, a volunteer production, is a multi-sensory Elizabethan Christmas experience with pageantry and music that celebrate the light of Christ coming into the world.” It’s something my family’s always done since I was little. We missed a few years as we got older, but we’re trying to restart the tradition and keep it alive.

We rang in the new year by playing Cards Against Humanity until 3am at my brother-in-law’s parent’s house. (photos were taken by his mom and I was clearly not prepared for them).

  3. Thank you! It's wonderful having my own place again. I mean, I love my parents and will forever be grateful for their kindness and generosity this past year, but it is really refreshing to have my own space again.
