This week’s Casual Cosplay is inspired by everyone’s favorite mercenary, Deadpool. A red and black dress paired with black tights, booties, and a faux leather jacket for some edge, mix in some red and black make-up, katana earrings, and Deadpool themed accessories and you’ve got the perfect outfit to pay homage to the Merc with the Mouth.

It was another busy weekend for me so Weekly Wonders is a little late again. I spent Saturday morning at the hair salon getting the finishing touches done to my new do. It took two sessions and a total of six and a half hours to get my hair to the color and cut it is now. Are you anxious to know what it looks like? I know the suspense is probably killing you! I’ll most likely post a picture on Instagram later today, so be sure to check there if you’re really curious. The rest of Saturday was spent shopping for Father’s Day gifts and rearranging my living room – which I still haven’t finished. I’m the worst ever at time management, but if you’ve been reading this blog for a while then I’m sure you’re well aware of that by now.
Anyway, enough about my life, on with the Weekly Wonders! Oh, and just a warning, I saw Jurassic World last week and I’m kind of obsessed, so a lot of this week’s favs are inspired by that. Sorry not sorry.

I’ve always loved that yellow jacket Luke wears during the medal ceremony at the end of A New Hope, so I decided to create an outfit inspired by that look. This is a more literal interpretation than most of my casual cosplay outfits, but I think it works since it’s not an immediately identifiable costume. The only things that might give it away are the necklaces and hip holster bag with the “Stay on Target” patch, and only other Star Wars fans would probably recognize them. That’s what’s fun about casual cosplay, you can express your love of a character or fandom in a way that lets you look cute and fashionable to most people, but at the same time it allows you to connect with other fans who understand the reference. That’s what I think anyway.

It was a pretty busy weekend for me. I helped some friends move into their new home and my mom had surgery to get her gallbladder removed. She’s doing well now. There weren’t any complications with the surgery and she’s recovering quickly. So that’s why the Weekly Wonders post is a bit late this week, but oh well. Better late than never!

Last Friday was Draco Malfoy’s birthday, so I thought it would be fitting to create an outfit inspired by his (and my) Hogwarts house. Lots of green and silver, snake accessories, and a snake skin purse make this a great casual outfit inspired by Slytherin House from the Harry Potter series.

Whoa. Long time no blog. I won’t try to make up any excuses for my absence, it is what it is, but before I delve into my weekly favorites here are a few things worth mentioning that have happened since I last blogged:
I dyed my hair red. Although I’m pretty sure it will be transitioning back to blonde soon.
We adopted another cat! His name is Westley and he’ll be six years old in August. He was scheduled to be euthanized at the animal shelter he was staying at, but my friend’s sister rescued him. From the moment we met him it was love at first sight and we knew he had to come home with us.
We finally heard some positive news on the whole federal government job/contractual obligations front. My husband is up for a job in the medical research facility at a state university! He’s already had two interviews and now we’re just awaiting the final decision. This whole process has been going on since March, I think, so it’s definitely been testing our patience, but I trust in God’s timing and His provision regardless of the outcome.
That’s all the updates for now. Let’s move on to the Weekly Wonders (which is the new name for Friday Favorites, since I’ll be posting them on Saturdays from now on).
(Formerly Friday Favorites) Every Saturday I round up some of my favorite things that I've seen that week from around the web. Common categories include artwork, home décor, cosplay, and cats. Here are my favs for the week of May 31 – June 6 2015:
